    Drilling: The platter in hard drives can be destroyed partially by drilling holes in it. Though most people are not able to retrieve information from drilled hard drives, a significant portion of the hard drive platter still remains intact. Therefore, a considerable amount of data can still be accessed by expert hackers. This is why this method is not recommended for complete protection of data.  

    Shredding: This is the most effective and popular method for destroying hard drives. The hard drives are run through shredder machines that cut the drive into small pieces so that the data becomes useless. It is worth mentioning here that shredding is the only method that provides complete data security by destroying hard drives entirely. Once the hard drive is shredded into tiny pieces, they are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
